The Pro-Kidney Foundation of Santa Catarina was founded in 27th December 1987 and it is a philanthropic non profit organization privately managed, recognized as Federal, Municipal and Estate public utility. Kanits & Associates has classified it as one of the 400 biggest non profit organizations in Brazil, and the most important one in Santa Catarina. Its social expenditure is higher than R$ 4.2 million per year. The Chamber of Councilmen of Joinville awarded the Pro-Kidney Foundation with the Commemorative Plate of the 150º years of Joinville in recognition to the given services the community of city in a solemn session carried through on 9th March 2001.
The mission of the Pro-Kidney Foundation of Santa Catarina is to save lives focusing its actions on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of renal diseases, providing the renal patient with a humanitarian treatment. It aims to improve itself clinically, scientifically, technically, and administratively continuously in order to help the life standard of its patients. It is an excellence center of renal diseases treatment with national recognition, and it acts in the whole state of Santa Catarina, especially in the area of hemodyalisis and renal transplants in which the life expectancy is above 90% if compared with international high quality services. The Pro-Kidney Foundation has been also established in the State of Tocantins, Northern part of Brazil.
