Dialysis

The treatment for hemodyalisis at the Pro-Kidney Foundation occurs in the treatment centers located in Joinville, Balneário Camboriú, Jaraguá do Sul, Mafra e Sao Bento do Sul. Treatment is provided to patients who suffer from acute or chronic renal insufficiency. The chronic patients are usually hospitalized due to a serious clinical condition or surgery, and are able to recover in a short period of time, generally in about a month time.

Those that need hemodyalisis in a regular basis are patients with renal failure whose kidneys need to be replaced. The treatment is done by “filtering” the blood of the patients through the dialyses machine. The treatment is usually done three times per week for four to six hours, however each patient has different needs and frequency changed according to his individual needs.

Nephrologists and nurses specialized in dialysis are available to give care to these patients in the Pro-Kidney Centers. The high technology equipment is computerized in order to provide ultra filtration and sodium control in the dialysis solution. The equipment has alarms and security devices so the treatment is make efficiently and in a safe mode.

Patients with contagious diseases (hepatitis and AIDS) are treated in separate rooms to allow maximum safety. There has not been any form of transmission of contagious diseases in our centers for many years. The professionals are trained to give the patient a pleasant and friendly feeling during the treatment. The professionals aim to reduce as much as possible the difficulties inherent to the diseases and dialysis treatment.

The Pro-Kidney Foundation also offers treatment for CAPD (Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis). This type of hemodyalisis is carried out by the patient himself at his own house, making “filtration” of his blood through his peritoneum (the membrane that involves the organs which works as a filter). A group of specialists follows the patient’s treatment at home for at least a month, after a period of training and adaptation in the hospital.
